San Jose

sportsmens lodge costa rica super bowl 2014In San Jose, Costa Rica, there’s a large population of expats and tourists who will be glued to the giant TV screens at one of the sports bars. It will take place this Sunday at 4:30pm Costa Rican time. Most of the top places will charge cover charges and you will need to make reservations.

One of the best places to watch the game is at The Sportsmens Lodge in San Jose. It’s an upscale sports bar with plenty of space and TV monitors. The Lodge has great food during the game as well as the ability to place bets before and during the game.  During the Super Bowl the working girls that frequent the bar are normally not allowed.

Wing Shack Sport Bar and Grill is a newer bar. They specialize in chicken wings, but have an extensive menu, as well. They offer a 100 inch projector image in addition to many flat screens. Mac’s American Bar (La Sabana) and Goool! Sports Bar are always full for the Super Bowl. The first caters to a group of expats, while Goool! has a greater mix of tourists and locals. The Club Casino Colonial is another place to catch the big game in downtown San Jose.

Playa Jaco

If you are one of the many tourists and expat locals that will be in Playa Jaco on Sunday there are a variety of places to take in the game.  Most you will need to come early to to get a table with a great view of a TV.

If you are looking for the good old fashioned US sports bar experience you should head to Los Amigos or The Hook Up in Los Suenos.  Great food at both locales and you will feel like you are back in the USA with the ability to walk out to the beach at half time.

Jaco Taco mixes in some great ex-Mex during your Super Bowl viewing experience.  Clarita’s is located right on the beach and will have a mix of both locals and expats on Super Bowl Sunday. At Bar Oz they will have drink specials and you can enjoy their pool and pool tables. Finally if you are looking for a little company during the game with a girl that you will need to pay for their company you can head to the Hotel Cocal.  You can place some bets during the game at their onsite sports book.
