In the end of 2022, Qatar welcomed back the renowned pink pineapple, a product created and trademarked by the Fresh Del Monte firm and solely grown in Costa Rica.

The Fresh Del Monte firm, the sole grower of pink pineapple, has been exporting the fruit to the UAE, Saudi Arabia, the US, Canada, Hong Kong, and now Qatar. The exclusive product is quickly gaining popularity in the world’s most luxurious markets. Air shipments of approximately 360 pineapples are sent out monthly and take only 3-4 days to arrive at their destinations. The pink color of the pink pineapple is due to the presence of lycopene, a chemical compound also found in tomatoes, watermelons, and grapefruit.

Developed over 17 years in the Buenos Aires region of Puntarenas, pink pineapple is considered a high-end, exclusive Costa Rican product that is only sold in select markets around the world. A Fresh Del Monte representative explained that the reason for the launch of the product in Qatar was because the distributors were eager to offer something new and unique to their customers who are known for their love of trying new flavors.

While a single unit of pink pineapple may fetch up to $39 in the US, it is being sold in Qatar for a more modest price range of between $13 and $28. And while the fruit is not yet available for purchase in its home country, the producers have not ruled out the possibility of sell it in Costa Rica.

With its unique flavor and exquisite color, pink pineapple is quickly becoming a favorite of food lovers in Qatar, and beyond.
