Jaco, Costa Rica Croc’s Casino Resort, the first Las Vegas-style luxury hotel, condominium and casino undergoing development in Costa Rica, recently took account of its immediate and potential future benefits to the local community of Jaco in the canton of Garabito and beyond. To this effect, developer Rory Hascall spoke to the Costa Rica Star about job creation and local sourcing.
Building supplies are procured from local suppliers for Croc’s Casino Resort, and being utilized by firms such as EDICA, Grupo Gamma, Grupo Clima, and Manifesto. All of the concrete and other materials are being provided by the CEMEX plant located just south of Jaco Beach.
Readers of the Costa Rica Star who are following the development of this exciting Jaco Beach landmark (video) are already familiar with Rory’s vision for Croc’s Casino Resort. This is foremost a family business enterprise, and he intends to keep it that way. By early 2014, construction of the 10th floor of Croc’s tower was completed thanks to the hard work of more than 400 building professionals.
The immediate benefit to the Jaco Beach labor market is represented by over 180 construction workers. Local businesses are also taking advantage of the ongoing construction by housing the out-of-town laborers and subcontractors and offering them lodging, meals and entertainment. These are just residual benefits; once Croc’s Casino Resort is completed in time for the 2014 holiday season in Costa Rica, the initial staffing goal is to hire 300 employees whose duties and responsibilities will be in the areas of:
- Hospitality
- Administration
- Casino Operations
- Security
- Spa and Guest Services
- Dining
- And many others
Some top-level hiring at Croc’s Casino Resort has already been reported by the Costa Rica Star. Carlos Ceciliano is the new Food and Beverage Manager, and he will be involved in the hiring of key personnel such as chefs, bartenders, servers, etc. The executive staff at Croc’s is working on developing an online resume submission system that will focus on local employees first, but will also be expanded to attract talent from other parts of the country.
