costas verdes playa hermosa jaco200 environment volunteers of the Costasverdes organization have reforested 20 hectares of the terrestrial maritime zone in Playa Hermosa near Jaco on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica.

This project is an initiative that started five years ago and involves educational centers, communities, local authorities and businesses, all of which participate in reforesting this beach as part of the Playa Hermosa – Punta Mala National Refuge of Wild Life.

The initiative is coordinated by Costasverdes, a non-governmental organization dedicated to reforesting Costa Rica’s coastal ecosystems. The project counts with the backup of the Ministry of Environment and Energy (Minae) as well as of the Central Pacific Conservation Area.

The work has been based on environmental education for students and local businesses, which participate in planting seeds and learn about maintenance and conservation.

Businesses and hotels also get involved in reforesting by promoting sowing activities or providing meals for the volunteers.

Next year in the framework of the Biomarc project and along with Costasverdes, the management plan Playa Hermosa’s refuge will come into full force.

If you want to support reforestation in your community, please like Costas Verdes on Facebook.
