Charles Boyd is a huge supporter of community development projects and here at The Costa Rica Team we are always looking to edify the community in which we operate. Most recently, one way in which we have accomplished this is through our proud sponsorship of our local heroes at the Jaco Volunteer Fire Department, Bomberos Voluntarios Compania 63.
The Jaco Garabito District has a paid Fire Department that is augmented by the Volunteer Department of Company 63. These volunteers receive full fire fighting training alongside the paid team. This new group of volunteers was trained within the last 3 months and will join the existing volunteers. These brave citizens risk their lives to help those in need, just as we at The Costa Rica Team eagerly help those who are willing to make those risks. It is always a blessing to be able to assist in the best way we can.
We are contributing to these volunteers uniforms, equipment and training. In addition, we will be supporting the Fire Departments Mothers Day celebration here in Costa Rica by putting on a dinner for the mothers, wives and sisters of the fire fighters. This celebration will be held at the Fire Station which is located on the main highway next to Super 2000 this Sunday at 6pm, August 18, 2013. There will be games and activities for all the family members of our local fire department.
Prior to 2007 because the first unit on the scene of an emergency came from Orotina or Parrita, the response time was approximately 25 to 30 minutes. It became apparent to some developers of tourism projects in the area that there was a need to have a closer station. While planning began in 2006 the official opening occurred January 21, 2007 with an event in the Catholic Church of Jaco, followed by a parade around the center of Jaco and terminating at Las Nubes in Herradura.
As time progressed and the community increasingly relied more on the Fire Brigade, the birth of a company of volunteer firefighters willing to collaborate with the full time team emerged. During the rainy season of 2008 major damage occurred with the original facility in Herradura causing the municipality to look for a better location to ensure continued service for the Garabito district. The current Fire Station in Jaco opened September 13, 2008 and has been an integral part of this community ever since.
We at The Costa Rica Team salute all those, past and present who participate in keeping our Fire Department alert and ready for any local emergency in Jaco.
