Buenos Aires, Mar 23 (EFE).- Just four years after giving up a job developing financial apps to enter the world of games, Argentine computer engineer Maximo Cavazzani has seen his Preguntados/Trivia Crack become the world’s fourth-most-downloaded app, with 125 million users.

To create “something that everyone would be able to do” was his guiding principle, he told Efe in an interview.

“What inspired me was the idea that people like games, but they are badly done,” he said.

Besides giving players the chance to compete with each other answering questions, Preguntados generates new content to be submitted for participants’ approval.

“There were already question and answer games, but the problem was the content,” Cavazzani said. “Spaniards, for example, wanted to play and endless stream of questions about Spain.”

Trivia Crack includes traditional quiz categories: Art, History, Sports and so on.

But Cavazzani, the founder and CEO of Etermax, S.A., has hooked users around the world with questions such as “what came first, trees or sharks?” and by including unconventional subjects such as corruption.

“In Spain, for example, there are questions about corrupt politicians, and here (in Argentina) too. The app surprises you, you expect something and it gives you something different,” Cavazzani said, adding that he spends “plenty of time” playing with own games and those from other developers.

But the numbers for Preguntados/Trivia Crack are no game: one in eight Latin American mobile users has it on his or her device, while Cavazzani’s creation was the most-downloaded app in the United States for a record 66 consecutive days.

Although Preguntados/Trivia Crack is Etermax’s mega-hit, the company’s first incursion in the territory came in 2011, with Apalabrados/Aworded, a version of Scrabble that was on half of Spanish smartphones within a year. EFE
