Costa Rica News – 99.6 percent of all Costa Ricans have electric service. Power lines reach nearly every part of the country.

The government is now planning to provide mass  broadband Internet.

The proposal seeks to provide powerful fiber optic connections capable of 20 MB at no more than $1 per MB. In just a year, the entire territory, 1.5 million connections, could be implemented.

The Minister of Science, Technology and Telecommunications announced the plan at a forum about myths, fears and opportunities of the technological revolution, which was part of the 20/20 Visionaries Symposium.

The event was organized by Universidad Latina, Tigo, La Nación and H Solís.

Other topics discussed in this forum include electrically powered cars, solar energy generation and hydrogen buses.
